Project Justification

The FCDP has been rendering yeomen service to the poor and needy of the coastal belt of Kollam District since 1985. It was a time when more than half the fisher folk were living in deplorable conditions.

Regular activities

Regular activities
•   Door to door visits for census and data collection
•   Recording and entry of medical data
•   Conducting different clinical checkups
•   Refer to Benziger Hospital for laboratory work-up, X-ray and also in case of further treatment and complication
•   Conducting weekly and monthly meetings
•   Updating the statistical data of the centre
•   Periodic review of the centre’s performance
General Clinics
1.   Register new and repeated patients visiting the clinic and maintain the register.
2.   Doctors are present in the OPD of the centre on all working days and they see all the patients visiting the clinic.
3.   Providing medicines and conducting investigation based on the sickness.
4.   Refer the patients to Bishop Benziger Hospital in case of emergency and complications.

Antenatal (Prenatal) care
1.  Mother assessed for
•   General health, BP, urine testing, weight, abdominal palpitation, fetal heart rate.
2.  Providing TT injection & folic acid supplements, iron, calcium & vitamin tablets
3.  Conducting Health education on:
•   General health, hygiene, nutrition, rest & sleep, activity – domestic & sexual, regular check-up, exercises,
     family planning, spacing, mother craft, confinement, baby care & breast feeding, etc.
4.  Prepare mothers for any emergency.
5.  Categories such as high-risk pregnancy are Referred.
Baby clinics
1. Usually for children under five
2. For growth monitoring and reporting
3. Other overall growth parameters are assessed like speech, social development, fine and gross motor development,
    cognitive etc. (by DDST scale)
4. Any deviation from normal is handled accordingly or referred
5. Immunization and supplementation
6. Health education on breast feeding, complementary feeding, prevention of respiratory infection, diarrhoea , malnutrition,
   accidents etc.
7. Care of sick children
8. Providing supplements
Home Visit
1. Doctor performs consultation in the clinic & few students may be posted here
2. Other students go for home visits along with the teacher or community worker.
3. During home visits:
• Observes sanitation of house and surroundings
• Checks all members of the family for any ailments
• Carries out procedures as and when needed
• Gives health education as per the felt need
• In case of a need, follows up with the family member
• Refers to center on any particular day as per the need
Diabetic clinic
1. Check blood and urine sugar regularly.
2. Check for any diabetic complication injuries.
3. Dietary recommendation
4. Insulin injection
5. Teaching self-administration of insulin & urine testing for sugar for the patients
MONITORING AND EVALUATION
Progress of the project will be documented and reports such as quarterly, annual and final evaluation reports will be made available. The project will be evaluated during the execution as well as at the end of it. Internal evaluation will be conducted by FCDP as an ongoing process. At the end of the project the impact will be evaluated and the results will be used for further planning.
